Microsoft Kinect Becomes One Of The Best Selling Gadgets Of All Times

Microsoft sales were already peaking when developers for the XBox 360 released the Kinect. According to recent reports, the Microsoft Kinect is even beating sales for the for original iPad. More than 10 million Kinects have been sold since it was released in late 2010. This is great news for Microsoft, however, competitors Nintendo and Sony aren’t as pleased.

Microsoft stands to make hundreds of millions of dollars from the sale of the Kinect, but not all XBox 360 owners have been sold. The Microsoft Kinect works as a hands free video console controller, which using infrared technology to sense the player’s movements. Microsoft reportedly has plans to use this technology to match advertisers with specific demographics, but the company has not officially confirmed their plans.

The fast pace at which the Kinect has been selling has even helped Microsoft to secure a Guiness World Book record. So far, their have been no shortages of the Kinect in stores, but as new titles are released for the Xbox 360 this could change fast. The only problem that Microsoft has is the fact that first person shooters are their best selling titles. These hardcore gamers are proving difficult to separate from their accessories, and many are resistant to the idea of using the Kinect. If Microsoft can create more titles in line with those that are supported by Nintendo, the future of the Kinect will be secured. Hands free gaming is not just a passing fad. The Kinect allows game players of all ages to participate in a world that they had previously been excluded from.
