Ever since Apple teamed up with Verizon Wireless, AT&T has been looking for new ways to attract customers. First, the company dropped some of its monthly fees and then introduced a new program that allows mobile users unlimited hotspot usage. In response, Verizon Wireless has turned up the heat. Customers will no longer be able to sign up for one year contracts at Verizon Wireless, beginning on the 17th of April. The changes will not impact prepaid users, but customers looking to sign up for the iPhone 4 will need to stay on with Verizon for at least two years.
Now, Verizon Wireless is completely in line with the contract stipulations that AT&T upholds. Mobile users that are not satisfied with the services that they receive will need to pay a hefty cancellation fee in order to get out of their contracts. While Verizon Wireless and AT&T continue vying for the same market, T-Mobile is catering to Android fans.
Both companies are offering low priced smart phones in order to reel in customers. At Verizon Wireless, the iPhone 4 is flying off of shelves as many former AT&T customers are signing up. AT&T offers a wide selection of Android based phones, but the iPhone was always their most popular mobile device. Neither company may be able to completely monopolize the smart phone market any time soon, however, customers are already starting to feel the pinch. Mobile phone manufacturers are frequently entering into exclusive contracts which means that consumers have to pick their cell phone carriers based on the products that they offer.
